We shot this amazing dental video in dramatic HD in our Orange, CT office. Our video shows the incision and drainage of pus from a dental abscess along with the subsequent extraction of the offending tooth.
At the risk of bragging, this is probably the highest quality video of pus draining from a dental abscess that has ever been published on YouTube. Everything came together on this: lighting, head orientation, tongue location, position of instruments, etc.
And then of course, there’s the pus. Not every abscess will drain in this way. Some pus-filled infections have a cottage cheese consistency. Some are much less viscous and more milky (see this video for an example). Others, like this, have a consistency somewhere in between, with a juicy like appearance. And then some abscesses do not drain readily.
But this abscess had everything to give us amazing footage. But we’ll let you be the judge:
Some viewers find the juicy pus flowing out eerily fascinating. Others find it downright disgusting. To us, we have mixed feelings. We don’t like seeing our patients like this, but we are grateful to have the opportunity to cure these types of infections, which can be fatal if not treated promptly and properly.
